Yet another random project that I have going on at the moment is decorating my little girls new bedroom. I think I mentioned it in a previous post. Well I’ve had the paint and all the bits bought for weeks I just haven’t been able to find the time to do it. Until now. And can I just say there is pink EVERYWHERE. I love it though. The box room used to belong to my nephew so our blank canvas was blue, but it has been completely transformed.
I am leaving the bed in the room for a while as she is still in a cot in my room so it’s handy to still have the option to use it as a spare room. So in essence it will be her dressing room. 🙂
The paint colours I used are the dulux my space range in delicate pink (lighter colour) and perfect pink. You can get all the details here.
The wardrobe and shelves are both from Ikea (my favourite place in the world), as are the flower lamp and the green butterflies.
And as you can see we also have the privilege of sharing our living space with a fairy via the fairy door in the skirting board. Our fairy door came as a present from her uncle and it was made by the amazing Irish fairy door company, complete with stepping stones, fairy key and lease agreement. We plan to decorate the fairies garden too, once the weather gets a bit better though. 🙂
I also have a beautiful mobile hanging above her bed which was a gift from my sister for Christmas. It game from a small local toy shop and I adore it. When the window is open it sways in the wind and I just think its precious. The light switch cover was a gift from my mother in law. She got it at a craft market in the city recently. It is like a vinyl sticker that comes pre cut in two pieces, one for the cover and one for the button and it includes holes for where the screws are, its fab. And most importantly it is semi-permanent.
Next we got her bedsheets in home store. The ones in this picture are slightly different as they are of a dolls house and the ones we got are of a ferris wheel. They are the same colour scheme though. Also in this picture is one if the most beautiful things I have ever seen and there is a bit of a story behind it. I had wanted to buy a nice keepsake box to put all the baby bits into and had found a suitcase style box which I bought and waited patiently to arrive. When it did finally get here I opened it and it was about the size of a box of granola bars. I was gutted. Then on Christmas morning when we were opening presents we opened the big box that one of my best friends had given to T. It was the most stunning old style structured suitcase. It has leather trim and handles and metal buckles and is just perfect. It is proudly on display on top of the wardrobe. It is far too beautiful to put under the bed.
The hangers on the back of her door are shaped like butterflies, to keep with the theme. They came from tiger and I painted the top of the screw that holds them up, with nail varnish. I didnt like seeing the big silver dot. One if the final things in her room that I will never take down is a gift I got from another one of my best friends and its the front page of a newspaper announcing the birth of my baby girl and it is hilarious. The entire page is personalised and the story is so funny. It was such a thoughtful and original gift.
So that’s it, after weeks of gathering bits and pieces and planning we are finally finished the princess room. Just in time to pull all the clothes back out of the wardrobe and swap them for the next size up. 😦 My baby needs to stop growing. It’s all happening too fast.
Thanks for checking in again.
